Donald Trump has announced that he wants Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida to serve as Secretary of State in his future administration. In a written statement, Trump praised Rubio as a respected leader and emphasized his role as a fearless defender of the nation and its allies.

Marco Rubio, who has been in the US Senate since 2011, had tried to become the Republican presidential candidate in 2016, but failed in the primary campaign against Trump. Despite the tensions at the time, Rubio has proven to be a loyal supporter of Trump in recent years. He recently voted against additional financial support for Ukraine, which is under attack from Russia.

Rapid formation of a government

After his election victory in November, Trump quickly began filling his government posts. In recent days, he has announced several personnel decisions, including the appointment of Pete Hegseth, a former soldier and TV presenter, as Secretary of Defense and Kristi Noem, the governor of South Dakota, as head of the Department of Homeland Security. Trump has proposed bypassing the usual Senate confirmation process for ministerial posts.

In addition to ministerial posts, Trump has also filled various advisory roles in the White House that do not require Senate confirmation. He plans to hire tech billionaire Elon Musk as an outside adviser on reducing government spending.

During Trump's first term in office from 2017 to 2021, there were numerous personnel changes in his administration. He frequently dismissed ministers or other employees, while some resigned of their own accord. The case of former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, whose dismissal Trump announced via the Twitter platform, now called X and owned by Musk, is particularly well known.
