Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has cast his vote in the US election. "I'm very confident. We went in with a very big lead," Trump told reporters. The outcome of the election will be anything but close, he predicted. Polls, on the other hand, predict a very close race between him and Democrat Kamala Harris.

Trump voted with his wife Melania at a polling station in Palm Beach in his home state of Florida. The state has particularly strict rules for convicted felons in elections. In many cases, they are not allowed to vote.

Trump, who was convicted of unlawfully booking hush money payments to a porn actress, was nevertheless allowed to vote. The reason: he was convicted in New York. This means that New York rules apply to him - and felons are allowed to vote there as long as they are not serving a prison sentence at the time of the election. Trump's sentence has yet to be announced.
