US President-elect Donald Trump wants to make lawyer Brooke Rollins his Secretary of Agriculture.

Rollins already held various positions in the White House during Trump's first term and currently heads the "America First Policy Institute", an influential conservative think tank - whose CEO, Linda McMahon, wants to make Trump Secretary of Education. The Republican described Rollins' commitment to farmers as "second to none" and emphasized that she would lead efforts to "protect American farmers, who are the backbone of our country".

The Department of Agriculture is one of the largest federal agencies in the United States. This is due not only to the country's vast agricultural land, but also to the sector's central importance to the US economy. Should Trump get his preferred candidate through, Rollins would not only be responsible for traditional agricultural policy in her new role. Her responsibilities would also include managing rural development programs and the important SNAP nutrition program, which provides assistance to low-income households.
