USA Top Republican: Trump needs the most protection of all

Following the attempted attack on Donald Trump, the Republican leader of the US House of Representatives has called for more protection for the ex-president. "President Trump needs the most protection of all. He's attacked the most, he's threatened the most, probably even more than when he was in the Oval Office," said Mike Johnson in a Fox News program about the ex-president.

He and the Republicans in the House of Representatives therefore demanded that Trump be provided with "all available resources" for his security. If necessary, "even more will be made available", Johnson announced with regard to the budget of the Secret Service, which is responsible for personal protection.

US President Joe Biden had also previously spoken out in favor of strengthening the agency. The bodyguards need more help, said Biden in Washington. "And I think Congress should respond to that need." The US parliament decides on the budget of the agency, which is responsible for protecting high-ranking politicians.
