Tesla, the electric car manufacturer led by Trump confidant Elon Musk, has warned the US government of the possible negative consequences of American punitive tariffs for the company. Tesla also pointed out the consequences of countermeasures by other countries.

According to a letter to US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Tesla's own production costs in the USA have risen as a result of previous additional tariffs. In addition, the vehicles have become more expensive abroad, which has weakened their competitive position in the market.
Tesla also pointed out that US companies are quickly affected by countermeasures from other countries in the event of trade wars. The additional tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump have already triggered a backlash from Canada and the European Union, among others.
