Following his temporary impeachment, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has once again ignored a summons from law enforcement authorities. As reported by the Yonhap news agency, Yoon did not appear at the relevant corruption investigation authority as requested. Yoon had already failed to comply with an initial summons a week ago.

Yoon was removed from office by parliament in mid-December after he unexpectedly imposed martial law and lifted it hours later after massive opposition. The opposition accuses Yoon of breaking the constitution.

Court decides on impeachment

The South Korean Constitutional Court must make a final decision on Yoon's future. It can either confirm an impeachment or declare it unconstitutional. The court has scheduled the start of the trial for December 27.

Yoon defended his decision by saying that he had declared martial law to protect the nation. His political opponents were "anti-state forces" that were paralyzing the work of the government and disrupting the constitutional order of the country.
