According to media reports, the South Korean opposition has requested that President Yoon Suk Yeol be removed from office. The head of state had unexpectedly imposed martial law at night and then lifted it hours later after massive political resistance. According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, the motion was signed by 191 of the 300 members of parliament. Accordingly, no representative of the ruling party supported the proposal.

The motion is to be submitted to the National Assembly on Thursday and will be voted on either Friday or Saturday. The largest opposition party had previously accused the conservative head of state of breaching the constitution and called for him to resign immediately.
