Migration Several dead in migrant boat shipwreck off Greece

According to the Greek coast guard, two babies and two women have died in a shipwreck of a migrant boat off the island of Kos in the Aegean Sea. 27 other people were rescued, a coastguard spokesman said on Tuesday evening.

Among the survivors was a suspected trafficker who had been arrested. Accidents involving migrants regularly occur off the coast of Greece. Greece is one of the main countries through which people fleeing poverty or war in Africa, Asia and the Middle East flee to the European Union. As recently as September, three people lost their lives near the Greek Aegean island of Samos.
