AI is one of the major current challenges facing Swiss education, research and innovation, the Swiss Science Council (SWR) announced on Thursday. In particular, the Council wants to address the areas of AI and health as well as infrastructure for AI. Another pressing issue is climate change. Scientific findings should be better integrated into the political decision-making process in Switzerland.

The Council is also focusing on the role of universities of applied sciences, which make an important contribution to technology transfer and applied research. Finally, the SSC also wants to shed light on less visible institutions such as research libraries. These will become "data hubs, which are central to the communication, storage and processing of research-relevant data.

The SSC is the Federal Council's advisory body in matters relating to education, research and innovation policy.
