The websites of the Liechtenstein National Administration and the government were attacked by a hacker group from Russia on Monday. The websites were unavailable from midday. The outage has since been rectified.

The attacks by the hackers on the website providers were quickly noticed, the Liechtenstein Ministry of Presidential Affairs and Finance announced. Appropriate measures and clarifications have been initiated. "We are reviewing our defensive measures and optimizing them if necessary," a spokesperson for the ministry told the Keystone-SDA news agency.

The attack was a DDoS attack. This involves overloading websites and applications with targeted and distributed requests so that they are no longer accessible. No data is lost during such an attack.

This was also confirmed by the government spokesperson. No data was actually leaked and no damage was caused to the system. It was simply a case of the system being overloaded. "The incident shows that Liechtenstein can also be the target of such attacks," said the spokesperson.
