According to local authorities, 16 people were injured in a Russian airstrike on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia.

According to Ukrainian media reports, it was the first time that the city had been hit with so-called glide bombs. According to the Ukrainian police, 13 residential buildings, 2 kindergartens and several cars were damaged by the night-time attack.

Glide bombs are dropped by Russian fighter jets near the front line and then guided over dozens of kilometers to the target. Such bombs containing several hundred kilograms of explosives have already caused serious damage in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and elsewhere.

In order to prevent these attacks, Ukraine is asking to be allowed to use Western weapons against Russian air bases close to the front.

According to the Ukrainian air force, Russia also deployed four combat drones during the night. Three of them were shot down.
