According to the Palestinian Civil Defense, there were deaths and injuries in an Israeli attack in the refugee district of Al-Bureij in the Gaza Strip. A total of six residential buildings were affected.

An exact number of dead and injured was not initially given. The Israeli army stated that "reports that uninvolved civilians were harmed are being investigated".

The air force had attacked "terror infrastructure in the area of Al-Bureij, from which terrorists were preparing to fire anti-tank missiles (at soldiers)", the army added. Snipers also wanted to attack Israeli troops. The aim of the Israeli airstrikes was to end "an immediate threat to troops in the area".

According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, more than 41,250 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the war began on October 7. Around a third of the dead are said to be children and young people under the age of 18. The authority generally does not differentiate between civilians and combatants in its figures. The figures cannot be independently verified.

A month ago, the Israeli army announced that "more than 17,000 terrorists" had been killed in the Gaza war. This figure cannot be independently verified either.

In an attack on 7 October, terrorists from Hamas and other extremist organizations killed more than 1,200 people in Israel and took around 250 others hostage in Gaza. The unprecedented massacre triggered the war. In view of the high number of civilian casualties and the catastrophic situation as well as the severe destruction in the Gaza Strip, Israel has come under heavy international criticism.
