The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has called on all parties in the Middle East conflict to assume their responsibilities under international humanitarian law. This provides a legal framework for alleviating suffering during a conflict.

In this way, the principles of humanity can also be respected in times of war, the ICRC wrote on Sunday. Furthermore, all parties are called upon to respect the dignity of all people affected by this conflict. People are entitled to protection, humanitarian aid and the opportunity to build a new life in safety.

The ICRC remains committed to its obligation to provide life-saving aid. To this end, the warring parties should guarantee safe and unrestricted access.

Commemorative events were planned for Sunday evening in Bern and Geneva by the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities to mark the anniversary of the Hamas massacre in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
