Parliament can express its opinion on the ban on loud fireworks. The Federal Council recommends rejecting the "Fireworks Initiative" without a direct or indirect counter-proposal. It adopted the corresponding dispatch on Wednesday.

The Federal Council rejects the popular initiative "For a restriction on fireworks (fireworks initiative)" and argues that the cantons and municipalities already have the legal basis to restrict fireworks. This was announced by the state government. Many cities and municipalities currently restrict the use of fireworks in terms of time and/or location.

The initiative submitted on November 3, 2023 calls for the addition of Article 74a to the Federal Constitution. This would ban the sale and use of fireworks that produce noise. The cantonal authorities can approve exceptions for events of supra-regional importance upon request.
