Following the presidential election in Venezuela, which was overshadowed by allegations of fraud, opposition leader María Corina Machado is once again calling on Venezuelans around the world to protest. "On September 28, Venezuelans will put the whole world in turmoil," she wrote on the X platform. Machado also shared a video in which Venezuelan TV presenters, actors and comedians, among others, have their say. They demand, for example, that opposition candidate Edmundo González be recognized by the world as the elected president of Venezuela.

The protest is to take place exactly two months after the election on July 28. Just under a month ago, thousands of people around the world protested against the government of authoritarian President Nicolás Maduro. According to the government's opponents, there were demonstrations in Venezuela's capital Caracas and in 300 cities around the world.

The electoral authorities loyal to the government had declared Maduro the winner. The country's opposition, on the other hand, spoke of electoral fraud and claimed victory for their candidate González. The latter had left for Spain last weekend and applied for political asylum there. An arrest warrant had previously been issued against him in Venezuela on charges including sabotage, conspiracy and usurpation of authority.

The USA and several Latin American countries recognize González as the winner of the election. The EU also doubts the official result.
