The Norwegian parliamentary parties want to support Ukraine, which has been attacked by Russia, with more money next year than previously envisaged. The amount is to be at least 35 billion Norwegian kroner in 2025, as the government of the Russian neighboring country announced after a meeting in parliament in Oslo - the equivalent of almost three billion euros.

22.5 billion kroner of this is to go towards military support, while 12.5 billion is earmarked for humanitarian and civilian support. It is an important signal for Ukraine, but also for those who are attacking the country, said head of government Jonas Gahr Støre following the agreement, according to the NTB news agency.

The government had initially earmarked 15 billion crowns in the state budget for the coming year to support the country. The opposition considered this amount to be far too low, whereupon the parties initially agreed on a sum of 30 billion kroner and a new meeting this week. At this meeting, the 35 billion was agreed, which is to flow through the so-called Nansen support program.

This program is Norway's long-term support for Ukraine. It will be extended for a further three years until 2030 and, according to the government, will total at least 154.5 billion kroner (13.2 billion euros).
