Dutch police have broken up a protest by climate activists. Around 350 people were temporarily arrested, according to the police in The Hague. The climate activists had blocked a highway near the parliament in The Hague for several hours. They were protesting against subsidies for fossil fuels.

The highway had already been closed to traffic beforehand. The police initially did not intervene for hours because they had been on strike on the same day. The officers only ended the action in the early evening. Dozens of demonstrators were carried away. According to the police, the people arrested have been released.

The protest movement XR (Extinction Rebellion) has been demonstrating on this highway for months.
