The final details of the agreement are still being worked on, the head of government's office announced late in the evening. According to the Israeli news website "Ynet", these are "technical details" such as the exact composition of the prisoner list. Approval by the security cabinet and the government is expected.
According to Qatar, the Gulf state mediating between Israel and the Islamist Hamas, both sides have agreed on a ceasefire and the exchange of hostages and Palestinian prisoners. It is due to come into force on Sunday at 12.15 p.m. (11.15 a.m. CET) and will last 42 days in an initial phase. Israeli President Izchak Herzog called on his country's security cabinet and government to approve the agreement with Hamas. According to the media, the cabinet is due to meet today at 10.00 a.m. (CET).
