Nato assumes that the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine has already claimed more than one million victims.

"Every week there are more than 10,000 dead or wounded on all sides," said Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte at a discussion event in Brussels. Every day the war causes more destruction and death.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky had previously stated the number of his own soldiers killed in the war at 43,000. He also stated that there had been 370,000 cases in which help had been given to the injured. However, around half of the injured had returned to military service.

US President-elect Donald Trump recently cited similar figures. In his social network Truth Social, he spoke of 600,000 Russian soldiers killed or wounded and of Ukraine's losses of 400,000 soldiers to date.
