Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are to take on central roles in the US government under Donald Trump in order to cut spending and reduce bureaucracy.

Elon Musk, the well-known tech billionaire, will play a key role in Donald Trump's incoming administration. Together with Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, he is to head a new agency focused on reducing government spending. This decision was announced by the president-elect's team.

Musk and the challenges of conflicts of interest

Musk, who emerged as one of Trump's most active supporters during the election campaign and donated 120 million dollars, has already shown an interest in reducing government spending. However, his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, could face conflicts of interest as they are heavily dependent on government funding and contracts. Tesla is also under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for accidents involving the Autopilot system. Musk, who also heads Neuralink and the Boring Company, has repeatedly complained about the multitude of regulatory requirements.

Ramaswamy's role and Trump's vision

Vivek Ramaswamy, who attracted attention with provocative statements during the Republican primary campaign, will also play a significant role in Trump's administration. Trump praised both as "wonderful" Americans who will help reduce bureaucracy and cut unnecessary regulations. Musk promised that their work would send "shockwaves through the system".

Hegseth as Secretary of Defense

Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host, is set to become the new Secretary of Defense. Trump emphasized Hegseth's commitment to the troops and his "America First" policy. Hegseth, who currently hosts "Fox & Friends Weekend," is described as someone who should warn America's enemies.

Noem and the homeland security agenda

Kristi Noem, the governor of South Dakota, is slated to be Secretary of Homeland Security. She has been a strong advocate for border security and was the first governor to send National Guardsmen to Texas for support. Trump plans to use her to carry out mass deportations of illegal migrants. Noem was at times talked about as a possible vice presidential candidate, but a controversy from her memoirs led to those plans being scrapped.
