Dozens of people have once again been killed in fighting in the Gaza Strip. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, 68 people were killed within 24 hours. It does not distinguish between civilians and fighters.

The Israeli military announced: "In the course of the past day, the troops have eliminated dozens of terrorists in close combat and through air strikes". Among them was a commander of the secret service unit of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). According to the army, he was involved in the massacre in Israel on October 7.

None of the details could initially be independently verified.

Fighting continues in Rafah and Chan Junis in the south and in the outskirts of Deir al-Balah in the center of the area.

According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, at least 40,602 people have been killed and 98,855 others injured in the Gaza Strip since the war began last October.

The Gaza war was triggered by the worst massacre in Israel's history, with more than 1,200 dead, carried out by terrorists from the Islamist Hamas and other extremist groups on October 7.
