The Mass-Voll movement has launched a referendum against the introduction of the E-ID. With the planned introduction, parliament is disregarding the will of the Swiss people, who clearly rejected the e-ID at the ballot box in 2021, it said in a communiqué.

This is unacceptable for the movement. The Council of States has decided that in future referendums and initiatives can only be signed with an e-ID, Mass-Voll wrote on Thursday. This means that it will no longer be possible to participate in democracy without a smartphone.

Mass-Voll is optimistic that it will be able to collect the necessary signatures. The movement registered its referendum with the Federal Chancellery on Wednesday. The collection of signatures began on Thursday. 50,000 signatures must be collected by April 19.
