According to media reports, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will not be traveling to the Brics summit in Russia due to an injury. Lula suffered a cut to his head at home on Saturday, reported the news portal "G1" and CNN Brazil, citing a medical letter distributed by the presidential office.

The letter states that, following an examination, doctors had advised the 78-year-old to refrain from long-haul flights. However, he will be able to pursue his other activities. Lula will take part in the summit via video link, according to a separate statement.

Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin will receive the other heads of state and government of the group from October 22 to 24 in Kazan, the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan. Moscow is heralding the summit of the group led by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (Brics), which has since been expanded to include Iran and the United Arab Emirates, among others, as a global political event.
