In view of the delay to the planned ceasefire, the Israeli army says it is continuing to attack targets in the Gaza Strip. The army announced this morning that artillery and the air force had attacked a number of "terror targets" in the north and central section of the sealed-off coastal strip.

According to an agreement between Israel and the Islamist Hamas, a ceasefire was supposed to begin at 7.30 a.m. CET. It has been delayed because, contrary to the agreement, Hamas has not yet provided a list with the names of three hostages to be released today, according to the army.

Nevertheless, people in Gaza were celebrating, reported the Arabic television station Al-Jazeera. At exactly 8.30 a.m. local time (7.30 a.m. CET), the originally announced start of the ceasefire, jubilant celebrations broke out. Shots of joy and fireworks were fired, the station reported.

At around the same time in Israel, army spokesman Daniel Hagari said: "Hamas is not fulfilling its obligations". As long as Hamas does not fulfill the agreement, the Israeli army will continue to attack.
