Israel's army has confirmed reports of airstrikes in Yemen. Israeli fighter jets had bombed Huthi militia targets on the west coast and inland, the military announced.

Specifically, military infrastructure facilities in a power plant near the capital Sanaa and in the ports of Hudaida and Ras Isa were hit.

The army explained that the Houthis had repeatedly attacked Israel, its citizens and civilian infrastructure. "The State of Israel has the right and duty to defend itself," the statement said.

According to the Saudi Arabian news channel Al-Arabija, there were a total of around 30 airstrikes in Yemen.

"The targets attacked show how the Houthis are exploiting civilian infrastructure for their terrorist activities," the Israeli military added.

As recently as Thursday evening, Israeli air defenses intercepted three drones that had taken off from Yemen. The Houthi militia claimed responsibility for the attack.

In the past, the USA and its allies have also repeatedly responded to repeated Huthi missile and drone attacks with air strikes. The militia, which is allied with Iran, also regularly attacks merchant ships in the Red Sea. According to its own statements, it is acting in solidarity with Hamas.
