According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, four people were killed and 18 others injured in the attack. Many people tried to leave the area. Rescue workers were on the scene to pull injured people out of the rubble.
Growing number of air strikes on the center of Beirut
The area is densely populated, but is also considered to be controlled by the Shia militia Hezbollah and its allies from the Amal movement. The headquarters of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Australian embassy are located nearby. There were no previous warnings. The Israeli army did not initially comment on the attack.
Until now, most Israeli air strikes have targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut, which are considered a Hezbollah stronghold. Recently, however, the center has also been attacked more frequently.
