According to Russian reports, a high-ranking general and his aide were killed in an explosion in Moscow. The explosion on Tuesday morning was caused by an explosive device hidden in an electric scooter near a residential building in the south-east of the Russian capital, the Russian news agency Tass quoted Svetlana Petrenko, spokeswoman for the Investigative Committee, as saying.

Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the units responsible for radiological, biological and chemical weapons, was killed.

According to Petrenko, a criminal investigation into the attack has been initiated. The circumstances of the crime are currently being investigated.
