The Islamist Hamas wants to position police forces in the Gaza Strip following the start of the ceasefire with Israel. According to a statement from the Hamas internal affairs authority in Gaza, they were to "ensure security" in the coastal strip.

According to Hamas circles, this was part of an agreement between Egypt, Qatar and Israel to at least temporarily tolerate such police forces. However, there was no confirmation of this from the Israeli side.

According to the ceasefire agreement, Israeli troops are to withdraw from the densely populated areas of Gaza.

According to media reports, the moderate Palestinian Authority of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank wants to regain sole control of the coastal strip as soon as possible. Hamas had forcibly expelled them in 2007. A return of the autonomous authority to the Gaza Strip is also supported by Israel's Western allies. However, Netanyahu rejects this. He has not yet presented his own plan for the future of the Gaza Strip.

There is talk of the possibility of an EU border protection mission resuming its work at the Rafah border crossing to Egypt.
