At their delegates' meeting in Herisau AR, the Greens unanimously adopted a resolution against the construction of new nuclear power plants in Switzerland. "It is absolutely clear to us: the time of nuclear power plants is over," the party wrote on Platform X.

With the adoption of the resolution, it was also confirmed that a referendum against new nuclear power plants would be held if necessary, the Greens wrote during the delegates' meeting on Saturday. Green Party President Lisa Mazzone had previously committed her party to a "referendum legislature".

Federal Councillor and Energy Minister Albert Rösti (SVP) wants to allow new nuclear power plants. From a climate and supply security perspective, this is an "absurd idea that is also extremely expensive", they said. During a panel discussion on Switzerland's energy policy, it was clear to the Green Party delegates that a "massive expansion of renewables" was now needed, as decided by the electorate.
