Following reports of Iran's delivery of missiles to Russia, the economically strong Western democracies of the G7 have strongly condemned the provision of the weapons. A joint statement by the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US, as well as the EU's foreign affairs representative, said that Tehran's continued supply of weapons to Moscow despite repeated international calls to stop the deliveries represented a further escalation of Iran's military support for Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

Russia is using Iranian weapons to kill Ukrainian civilians and attack critical infrastructure. Most recently, the UK and the USA reported that Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran according to their information. The government in Tehran rejected the accusations.

"Iran must immediately cease all support for Russia's illegal and unjustified war against Ukraine and end the supply of ballistic missiles, drones and related technology that pose a direct threat to the Ukrainian people and to European and international security," said the statement published by the Italian G7 presidency.

"We remain firmly committed to holding Iran accountable for its unacceptable support of Russia's illegal war in Ukraine, which further undermines global security." Germany, France and the UK have already imposed new sanctions against Iran, and the EU also intends to take tougher punitive measures.
