Four migrants have died in a boat accident north-east of the Greek island of Kos. They were two women and two children aged three and five, reported the news channel ERTNews, citing the coast guard. According to the report, 27 people were rescued

There has also been a major rescue operation south of the island of Crete and the small island of Gavdos since the morning - 98 migrants have been brought to safety so far, with boats and a helicopter searching for a further ten people.

Just three weeks ago, three women and a girl died near the island of Samos when a rubber dinghy with 30 migrants on board capsized in strong winds not far from the coast.

While the number of refugees in other EU countries has remained stable or decreased so far this year compared to 2023, according to EU border protection agency Frontex, they have increased by around 15 percent in Greece. According to Frontex, more than 45,000 migrants arrived in the country since the beginning of the year and up to the start of October.
