Fighting in the Gaza Strip has again resulted in fatalities. According to Israel's army, it is continuing its operations against the Islamist Hamas in Rafah in the south of the sealed-off coastal strip. "The troops have eliminated terrorists, carried out targeted raids against terrorist infrastructure and discovered large quantities of weapons in the area," the Israeli military announced.

Fighting is also continuing in the center of the Gaza Strip. On Saturday, Israel's air force attacked around 25 Hamas targets throughout the coastal strip.

Hamas authority: Almost 41,000 dead since the start of the war

According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, 33 people were killed and a further 145 injured in fighting in the Gaza Strip within 24 hours. According to the figures, at least 40,972 people have died in the Palestinian territory since the start of the war. The authorities do not differentiate between civilians and fighters.

None of the figures could initially be independently verified.

The Gaza war was triggered by the worst massacre in Israel's history, with more than 1,200 dead, carried out by terrorists from the Islamist Hamas and other extremist groups on October 7. Israel responded with massive air strikes and a ground offensive. In view of the high number of civilian casualties and the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip, Israel is coming under increasing international criticism.
