More affordable, barrier-free housing, disability assistance for more people, recognition of sign language: although the Federal Council rejects new constitutional provisions for an inclusive society, it is proposing a package of measures at legislative level.

The Federal Council took four decisions on equal opportunities for people with disabilities at its last meeting of the year on Friday. The public was informed of this on Monday.

The background to the package of measures is the inclusion initiative submitted by disability organizations. This initiative aims to ensure the actual equality of people with disabilities in all areas of life and across all levels of legislation.

Although the Federal Council recommends rejecting the petition for a referendum, it shares its core concerns. It therefore wants to achieve rapid improvements for people with disabilities through legislation rather than through the constitutional process.
