After shots were fired near Donald Trump's home, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is assuming a suspected assassination attempt on the ex-president.

This was announced by the FBI after the incident in the US state of Florida, as reported by US media. According to the Secret Service, Trump is safe and unharmed.

The police have already arrested one suspect. A car was stopped on a highway near the Palm Beach crime scene and the driver was taken into custody, said William D. Snyder from the police department. The suspect appeared calm and composed.

According to the police, an AK-47 assault rifle with a telescopic sight and a camera were found in bushes at the scene.

Trump out of danger according to reports

According to official information, Trump himself is now out of danger. A spokesperson for the Secret Service announced that the former president was safe following an "incident". This occurred shortly before 2 p.m. (local time) on Sunday. According to the information, Trump was playing golf at his club in West Palm Beach in the US state of Florida at the time of the incident.

According to the authorities, the Secret Service fired shots in the direction of the suspect. The Secret Service is responsible for protecting high-ranking politicians in the USA, including current and former presidents.

Biden and Harris "relieved"

US President Joe Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris have been informed about the "security incident" in connection with Donald Trump. Both are "relieved" to know that the Republican presidential candidate is safe, the White House announced. Harris is running against Trump for the Democrats in early November. "Violence has no place in America," Harris wrote on X.

In mid-July, a gunman shot at Trump from a nearby rooftop at a campaign event in the state of Pennsylvania. He was injured by a bullet to his right ear and the perpetrator was shot dead by security forces shortly afterwards. One visitor died and two others were injured.
