EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell is calling on the Israeli authorities to ensure that the UN Palestinian Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) can continue its work. The EU is concerned about a draft law in the Israeli parliament that could prevent this, the chief diplomat said. The relief organization provides vital services to millions of people throughout the region.

The Israeli parliament wants to introduce a law to classify UNRWA as a terrorist organization and thus ban its work on Israeli territory, according to media reports. It could be passed in the near future.

Israel accuses the Palestinian relief organization in the Gaza Strip of being infiltrated by the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas. Several of the organization's employees are said to have been involved in the massacre on 7 October 2023. The UN also came to the conclusion that employees were most likely involved in the terror against Israel.
