In view of the announced ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, Egypt has prepared to receive injured Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. This was stated by the Egyptian Minister of Health, Chaled Abdel Ghaffar, during a visit to the Rafah border crossing.

Rafah is the only border crossing to the Gaza Strip that does not border Israel. It was closed at the end of May after Israel's army took control on the Palestinian side. Previously, injured Palestinians were brought to Egypt for medical treatment via the border crossing. After the closure, patient transports were stopped.

It is not yet known when the crossing will reopen. It is expected that the first aid supplies can be brought to Gaza when the ceasefire comes into force. According to the Egyptian Red Crescent, around 600 trucks carrying urgently needed aid supplies are waiting on the Egyptian side to enter the Gaza Strip.
