According to official reports, dozens of civilians were injured in a Russian airstrike on the large city of Kharkiv in north-eastern Ukraine. "A high-rise residential building was damaged", wrote Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on his Telegram channel. Mayor Ihor Terekhov spoke of 33 injured, including several children.

Rescue workers were still working in the afternoon to extinguish the fire that broke out between the ninth and twelfth floors after the bomb hit. They were also searching for other victims in the rubble.

Kharkiv was the second largest city in Ukraine with more than one million inhabitants before the war of aggression ordered by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. At the beginning of the war, Moscow tried to capture the city, which is only around 30 kilometers from the border, but failed. Since then, Kharkiv has been one of the most shelled cities in Ukraine. Russian troops have repeatedly attacked Kharkiv with artillery and rockets and most recently with guided bombs. The bombs are released by aircraft over Russian territory and then glide towards their target.
