In the Lebanese capital Beirut, everyday life is continuing as normal despite the increasing shelling from Israel and fears of a possible ground offensive. People went to work or went shopping in the morning, and classes at schools in the capital are also continuing.

The threat of an escalation of the conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah militia and fears of a new war dominated many conversations. Some residents have prepared emergency luggage with important documents so that they can leave the city quickly in an emergency. There were hardly any people on the Hamra shopping street in the city center, which is unusual on a Monday morning.

In the southern suburbs of Beirut, where Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Akil and 44 other people were killed in an Israeli airstrike, the situation was much more tense. Schools here remained closed and only a few stores were open. There was also widespread panic in the south of the country due to fears of a major war.
