Hamas in the Gaza Strip has agreed in writing to an agreement that provides for a ceasefire and the release of further hostages in return for Palestinian prisoners, according to sources within the Islamist organization. The agreement was deposited with the mediators in Qatar. According to Hamas circles in Qatar, this took place after Israel presented plans for the withdrawal of its troops, as it had requested. According to the circles, all Palestinian factions have accepted the proposal.

Israel's negotiators have also already agreed to the plan. However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office initially announced in the afternoon that Hamas had not yet given any response.

Efforts by the USA, Egypt and Qatar to persuade Israel to agree to a ceasefire and Hamas to release Israeli hostages through indirect negotiations have been underway for months. However, the talks have been at a standstill for months.
