The canton of Jura welcomes the Bernese Jura town of Moutier. As expected, voters clearly approved the treaty governing the change of canton from Bern to Jura on Sunday. The yes vote from the canton of Bern is still missing.

The planned change of canton from Moutier is also being voted on there today. The canton of Berne is significantly larger, which is why counting the votes is likely to take a little longer.

Voters in the canton of Jura approved the agreement to change the canton of Moutier on Sunday with 19,470 votes in favor (72.9 percent) to 7,253 against (27.1 percent). The turnout was 50.3 percent.

The change of canton from Moutier is also accompanied by an amendment to the Jura constitution. An article that was previously intended to pave the way for the unification of the Bernese Jura and the canton of Jura has been deleted. With the change of Moutier, the decades-old Jura issue is to be considered settled.
