The federal government is warning of a high avalanche risk in certain parts of Switzerland. The areas affected are western Lower Valais, central and northern Ticino, central Grisons, the Upper Engadine and the southern Grisons valleys.

The Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF issued the second-highest warning (level 4) for these regions on Monday evening. Otherwise, there is widespread considerable avalanche danger, i.e. level 3, according to the avalanche bulletin.

According to SRF Meteo, 15 to 40 centimetres of fresh snow is expected in the Alps above 1200 meters in the next 12 to 36 hours, as reported shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday.
