Margherita, a 9-year-old girl, has written a letter to the Italian company Barilla.
In it, she proposes the introduction of cork-shaped pasta.
The letter works: The company actually implements the child's idea.
"My name is Margherita, I am nine and a half years old and I always eat your pasta" - this is how the letter from a little girl in Genoa to Barilla begins. In it, she asks the Italian pasta company to develop a new variety.
"Just today I was thinking about creating a new variety: Corks! They have the shape of a pen cap that keeps the sauce inside. If you like it, you can invent it," the letter continues.
No sooner said than done: as "SkyTG24" reports on its website, the idea not only remained in the little girl's head, but even reached the CEO of Barilla.
After around two months, Gianluca Di Tondo replied personally and informed her that he had passed the idea on to the department responsible for developing new pasta formats.
Margherita receives a box of her pasta
A few weeks later came the surprise: Margherita received a box from Barilla containing the first prototype of her cork-shaped pasta.
"We took up the wonderful idea of corks and produced a first version in our pilot plant using 3D technology," writes Di Tondo. It will take some time before they can be produced on a large scale. It remains to be seen whether the corks will one day make it onto store shelves.
