Six months after taking office, Vice-Chancellor and Federal Council Spokesperson Andrea Arcidiacono is already leaving the Federal Chancellery again at the end of March. The move is at his own request and primarily for personal reasons, according to the Federal Council.

Federal Chancellor Viktor Rossi and Vice-Chancellor Arcidiacono informed the President of the Swiss Confederation and the other members of the Federal Council of this decision on Wednesday. "The Federal Council would like to thank Andrea Arcidiacono for his work to date and for continuing his work until the end of March 2025," he wrote.

Arcidiacono took up his post on October 1, 2024. He took over from Ursula Eggenberger, who had assumed the office of Vice-Chancellor and Federal Council Spokesperson on an interim basis following the unexpected death of André Simonazzi. Eggenberger, Head of Communications at the Federal Chancellery, will again act as interim Federal Council Spokesperson from April 1 until the vacancy is filled.

In order to find a long-term successor, Federal Chancellor Viktor Rossi is setting up a search committee. The position of Vice-Chancellor and Speaker of the Federal Council will be publicly advertised in February 2025. Eggenberger is not available for the vacancy.
