At least four people have died in a helicopter crash in the Russian region of Kirov. The Soviet-built Mi-2 helicopter crashed near the village of Belejenki - a good 700 kilometers northeast of Moscow, according to the Russian Ministry of Civil Defense.

In addition to the pilot, a doctor and two paramedics were reportedly on board. The cause of the accident was not disclosed. An investigation has been launched. Governor Alexander Sokolov announced on Telegram that there were no patients on board.

In Russia and other successor states of the Soviet Union, aviation accidents occur time and again due to inadequate maintenance and outdated technology. Mi-2 helicopters were produced from the mid-1960s to the end of the 1990s.
