After two explosions outside the Supreme Court in Brasília, the building was evacuated. The authorities are investigating the incident, in which one person was killed.

Two explosions rocked the area in front of the Supreme Court in the Brazilian capital Brasília, leading to an immediate evacuation of the court. The judges and their staff were taken to safety while the area around the court was cordoned off. Firefighters and explosives experts from the military were quickly on the scene to secure the situation.

According to reports from the news portal G1, the explosion occurred in a parking lot between the parliament and the court. A car had exploded there, resulting in the tragic death of one person. The security service of the adjacent Chamber of Deputies confirmed the incident.

Reactions of the authorities

Attorney General Jorge Messias strongly condemned the attacks on the Supreme Court and the Chamber of Deputies. He stated on Platform X that the police would investigate quickly and thoroughly in order to clarify the motive for the attacks and restore security.

Background and investigations

The acting governor of the federal district, Celina Leão, reported that a man had tried to break into the court but was unable to do so. His lifeless body was found outside the court after the explosions. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was no longer present in the nearby seat of government at the time of the explosions.

The investigation into the explosions is in full swing, while the authorities are trying to clarify the background to the incident and ensure security in the capital.
