Following an explosion at a supply canal for two coal-fired power plants in Kosovo, head of government Albin Kurti has accused "Serbian-led gangs". Speaking to journalists late on Friday evening, he called it a "terrorist attack" on the infrastructure.

"The attack was carried out professionally. We believe that Serbian-led gangs are behind it," he added. The explosion near the village of Zubin Potok in northern Kosovo damaged a supply channel that feeds the cooling systems of two coal-fired power plants, which supply most of the electricity in Kosovo. If the damage is not repaired quickly, there will be power cuts, said Kurti. The canal runs from Serbian-dominated northern Kosovo to the Kosovar capital Pristina and also supplies drinking water.
Serbia does not recognize the independence of its former province of Kosovo, and there have been repeated clashes in the conflict, which has been smouldering for over 30 years. The Republic of Kosovo declared its independence in 2008, but is far from being recognized by all UN states.
