Four freight wagons jumped off the rails during a shunting operation in Düdingen FR on Thursday morning. Rail traffic between Bern and Fribourg was disrupted for several hours.

In the course of the afternoon, the derailed wagons were put back on the tracks with the help of a road crane. From 4.00 p.m., trains were able to run according to schedule again, according to SBB.

The shunting accident occurred at 06.30 am. No one was injured. The railroad line could only be used on a single track until well into the afternoon. SBB spokesman Reto Schärli told the Keystone-SDA news agency in the morning that long-distance traffic should be affected as little as possible.

However, the S1 trains between Fribourg and Schmitten were canceled, as were the RE3 connections between Romont and Düdingen. The RE2 trains made an extraordinary stop in Schmitten. Rail replacement buses ran between Fribourg and Schmitten.
