Central Switzerland City of Kriens wants to reorganize tourism promotion

The town of Kriens wants to pay more attention to the growing importance of tourism. It therefore wants to define a new tourism strategy that also takes into account developments such as digitalization.

As the Lucerne suburban municipality announced on Friday, tourism has become an important economic factor in Kriens. In the last 20 years, the number of overnight stays has risen by 300 percent to 142,000 overnight stays. In the canton, only Lucerne and Weggis host more tourists. Pilatus has also become an important destination for international tourism.

Tourism has also changed significantly as a result of digitalization, the town added. Kriens wants to keep pace with this change in its tourism promotion policy.

The town of Kriens will therefore define a new tourism strategy, the press release continued. It is terminating the service agreement with Kriens Tourism at the end of the year in order to keep all options open. Whether and which tasks the association will take on in future will depend on the new strategy.
