As expected, the British central bank has not changed its prime rate. It remains at 4.75 percent, the Bank of England announced on Thursday after its monetary policy meeting in London.

Most bank economists had expected this decision. At the beginning of August, the central bank reduced interest rates for the first time since the great wave of inflation. It then cut interest rates again at the meeting in November.

Inflation in the UK had recently proved to be stubborn. In November, the annual rate climbed to 2.6 percent. The Bank of England's inflation target is two percent.
