The Brienz Rothorn Railway (BRB) is expected to resume operations in May 2025. Most of the damage caused by the storm has been repaired, according to those responsible for the steam cogwheel railroad.

After the storm in Brienz on August 12, the BRB had to end its season prematurely due to the damage to the infrastructure. The company is now confident that it will be able to put the railroad back into operation in time for the next season.

In the meantime, 6.5 out of a total of 7.6 kilometers of the track are now passable again, the BRB wrote in a press release on Friday. The repair of the damaged Morgenweid bridge in particular is now outstanding. "Once we have that, the 2025 season will be saved," said Chairman of the Board of Directors Peter Flück.

According to BRB, the cable car is expected to run again to the Planalp middle station from May. The route to the top of the Rothorn is scheduled to reopen at the beginning of June.

The BRB currently expects the restoration to cost a total of CHF 5 million, according to the press release. The company will be able to cover one million francs thanks to donations. In addition, two applications for one million francs each are pending with the canton and the federal government. The remainder will be financed by releasing reserves.
